BETTER CONDITIONS FOR FIREFIGHTERS = SAFETY OF ALL THE CITIZENS
There are 2600 professional firefighters in Croatia. Our job is to risk our lives in order to save other people's lives and possession, in all kinds of accidents and emergencies: fires, floods, earthquakes, other natural disasters, accidents and explosions in industrial plants, traffic accidents… We don’t have adequate equipment. Our fire trucks are often over 20 years old. Our tools, machines, and pumps fail too many times. Most of us possess a single firefighting suit, and therefore we do not manage to replace it until the next emergency, though the suit is often saturated with toxic substances from the place of the accident. Our workers' rights are not properly regulated. We do not receive suitable support when we suffer an injury at work or get an occupational disease. Seems like too many problems? Mission impossible?
FIREFIGHTERS' JOB IS NEVER DONE
For all of the reasons above, we have founded The Alliance of Trade Unions of Professional Firefighters of Croatia. We aim to connect presently fragmented and disunited firefighters' trade unions. This is the only way to effect quick and thorough changes concerning our working conditions and to ensure the rights and adequate protection of all Croatian firefighters. By accomplishing this, we will be able to confidently and efficiently do our job, which is to protect the lives and possessions of all the citizens of the Republic of Croatia.
Let's unite. Together we can do more!
We need to fight for better work conditions!
Let's secure our rights!
Let's be proud firefighters!
Whether we are professionals or volunteers, at the site of an accident we are all equal. Brotherhood of firemen is not just a phrase – it is a way of life.
When a fire alarm goes off in a firefighting station, every second becomes important as each moment lost could mean a loss of life or huge material damage. While rushing to the fire truck and hasting to the place of the accident, we have to be sure that our engine and our equipment won't fail. If, for any reason whatsoever, our intervention team is understaffed or our equipment is old and faulty, our lives are at stake. This means that the lives of all those we are about to recuse are also at stake.
